CFP: Violation: Representations in Literature and Culture

Conference: McGill English Department’s Twenty-First Annual Graduate Student Conference on Language and Literature
Place: Montréal, Canada
Date: February 20-22, 2015
Extended submission deadline for proposals: December 1, 2014
Description: The conference »invites submissions on literary and cultural engagements with violation. Violation can signify multiply: violating rules and regulations, violating genre or generic conventions, violating treaties, violating the body, violating expectations, violating intellectual property and copyright, violating social and cultural conventions, violating promises, violating standardized constructions of gender and sexuality, violating religious codes, violating privacy, violating human rights and dignities, and more. How are these political, stylistic, generic, bodily, and social infractions figured in diverse literary and cultural contexts? How do various mediums negotiate the concept of violation, both historically and in the contemporary moment?«

CFP: Gender and Sexuality: Identity Borderlands

Conference: Milwaukee Gender Conference
Place: Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States
Date: February 20-21, 2015
Submission deadline for abstracts: unknown
Description: »The Alliance of History Graduate Students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is pleased to announce their annual inter-disciplinary conference, with this year’s theme being gender and sexuality; this year’s theme highlights gender and sexuality. “Identity borderlands” is a phrase meant to bring to mind intersectionality—the borderlands where gender and sexuality cross paths with race, class, culture, and a host of other identities. This conference hopes to examine, critique, and advance the historical meanings of gender, sexuality, and identity within an intersectional context/framework that recognizes intersectionality. We are particularly interested in receiving papers from a spectrum of disciplines and a broad range of genres that help illuminate these themes.«

CFP: Elimination of Discrimination Based on Gender

Conference: TIIKM's 1st Annual World Conference on Women's Studies
Place: Colombo, Sri Lanka
Date: March 24-25, 2015
Submission deadline for abstracts: January 30, 2015
Description:
»In some countries women, unlike men, cannot dress as they like, drive, work at night, inherit property or give evidence in Court. The vast majority of expressly discriminatory laws in force relate to family life, including limiting a woman’s right to marry (or the right not to marry in cases of early forced marriages), divorce and remarry, thus allowing for sex discriminatory marital practices such as wife obedience and polygamy. Laws explicitly mandating “wife obedience” still govern marital relations in many States.
TIIKM’s 1st annual world conference on women studies attempts to form a discussion to address these discriminations against women.«
